October 2007

Mr. DuBose, Mr. Odom, and Mr. Scott are scheduled to be on the faculty of the Atlanta November 29, 2007 Lorman Seminar, “The Hidden Risks of Green Construction.” Mr. Odom and Mr. Scott will address LEED practices in their presentation, “The High-risk Components of LEED.” “Recommended Approaches to Preventing Building Failures” by Mr. DuBose will cover how to avoid problems while instituting LEED design.

August 2007

Mr. Scott and Mr. DuBose have been selected to provide an instructive seminar for the Mississippi Board of Architects on October 23, 2007, on the topic of “The High Risk of Green Buildings.”

July 2007

“The High Risk of Green Buildings: Why Moisture & Mold Problems are Likely” article in Direct Connection magazine; written by J. David Odom, Richard A. Scott, AIA, LEED, AP, NCARB & George H. DuBose. This article is scheduled to be published in September 2007.

May 2007

Florida AIA has selected Liberty Building Forensics Group to be a presenter at the Florida AIA Conference in Orlando, FL, July 2007. J. David Odom and Richard Scott, AIA, LEED, AP are to present the topic “The High Risk of Green Buildings: Why Moisture and Mold Problems are Likely.”

April 2007

Georgia AIA has selected Liberty Building Forensics Group to be a presenter at the Georgia AIA Conference in Savannah, Georgia, October 4, 2007. J. David Odom and Richard Scott, AIA, LEED AP, will present the topic “The High Risk of Green Buildings: Why Moisture and Mold problems are Likely.”

There is strong evidence to suggest that there is a direct correlation between innovative design and building failures. Since the very nature of green construction involves innovation and experimentation, it also introduces an increased risk of building problems. It is the authors’ 25+ years of experience that this increased risk is even more pronounced in “unforgiving” climates like the southeast where any departure from the “tried-and-true” often introduces moisture intrusion and mold problems.

March 2007

J. David Odom of Liberty Building Forensics Group has just been selected to the Project Committee to help develop and co-author the Advance IAQ Design Guide. Ten specialists have been selected from many fields, including ventilation, pollutant sources and control. Mr. Odom was selected for his immense knowledge and specialization in the area of moisture intrusion.

The Advanced IAQ Guide will be prepared over the next two years jointly by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), BOMA International, Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA), and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The guide is being developed to become a “Best Practices” design guide.

George DuBose, Vice-President of Liberty Building Forensics Group, said that “The role of David Odom in the development of this manual is a reflection of Liberty Building Forensics Group’s recognized technical experience in the areas of moisture in buildings and how they impact indoor air quality in buildings.”
